NEW PRODUCT RELEASE

For quite a bit of time we have been looking for a game that we both love and that fits our line of Republican Romans, Carthaginians and other nations that fought in the rise of the Roman Republic and the Punic Wars.

CLASH of Spears is an upcoming skirmish level wargame, set in the ancient times of the Roman Republic. It is a 30 to 50 miniature game played in 4’ by 4’ tables over 1 to 3 hours. And it was designed by an independent company that has put tremendous effort in making it both fast-paced and intuitive whilst remaining highly tactical and realistic.

VICTRIX has partnered with our friends at CLASH of Spears to provide Complete Skirmish Level Warband boxed sets for the nations of the Punic Wars!

In a single box you will be getting 4 to 6 different troop types in a complete 45+ miniature warband, ready to CLASH with the enemy! And the initial release will include the Roman, Carthaginian and Gallic boxed sets.

You will be able to order these boxed sets in the CLASH of Spears pre-release campaign in late NOVEMBER, along with the rulebook itself, at a significant discount from retail price.

Looks really cool and having the wide variety of figures in a box is great for people who want to have a smaller collection but with a lot of different figures.
Really good to see the Celts here too!

I also am very excited about this new release. Have I missed the place on this forum where it is discussed or has Victrix given thought to army deals for larger scale historical games like Swordpoint or DBA, etc.?

Exactly! If the price isn't to steep. I am planning to get the three startersets.

We are super excited that Victrix decided to support us in this project. We've been working for a long time on the rules and we've always been Victrix minis fanatics...

I had waited for long for Warrior of Antiquity and was disappointed when it didn't materialize so as we started working on this we always had Victrix mini in mind as the way to build these forces.

We had some crazy wild dream that we could reach out to them to work on this together, but it was just that... a dream, since we are an independent outfit with no track record, so we went to the internet to gather viral momentum.

This has been really great for us and hope to expand CLASH wherever Victrix goes with their minis, our expansions will surely provide support to the victrix growing line of minis as a priority.

The first book is easy because victrix has troops for all the nations in the book...

Thanks Victrix for working with us

I'm already busy painting Republican Romans and all sorts that can be put together as Carthaginians or used as individual nations to fight the might of Rome... I think Clash of Spears could well be the best skirmish rule set ever and I can't wait for my set to drop through the letter box. Will the rules be available to buy separately from the boxed sets? Not that I don't want to buy more Victrix minis, but I've already got hundreds of them waiting on the painting shelf.

Yes it will. That was our original venture. Lots of people might already have their armies or might buy other Victrix boxes and we don’t want to restrict them in any way..

@seldon

I am looking forward to this ruleset. Together with Mortal Gods this will cover all my gaming needs for the Ancient periode.

Hopefully Clash of Spears is a succes so you can expand to the Early Imperial and Dark Ages periods, which would be great with Victrix mini's. :-)

Seems everyone gone crazy about all those skirmish rules. All miniature producers invent their own skirmish rules. We have just had the Mortal Gods. Now these ones. You say 50 miniatures? How are you going to show a manipular tactics of Roman legions with 50 minies? How will you reflect a falanx tactical idea having 50 soldiers on a table? What a noncense! Ancient battles are not for skirmish rules. IMO.

That is a problem hopefully solved by rule sets covering army level. Ancient skirmish games have always been a compromise between reality and eye candy. The only way to do such things well is with armies of 200+ figures. The problem with those rules is the hight entry point.

CoS allows people to get started with just a single box. A sound plan.

I like the sound of Clash of Spears and also Too Fat Lardies Ancients Sharp Practice.    Both seem well thought out with innovative ideas.    I am way past the need for starter packs but they do provide a relatively painless entry point to the hobby.

For larger games will probably stick largely with Art de la Guerre but play others as well.

Looking forward to the release of both Rule sets.   Anything that gets the little grey cells working harder (at my age) cannot hurt!!!!
